About Alyssa

photo.JPG

Growing up in Nelson, New Zealand, Alyssa Higgins has been surrounded by beautiful landscapes and an artistic community. She began drawing at the age of nine, creating images from her imagination. What started as a childhood hobby has become a passion that shapes how she sees the world.

Higgins is fascinated by people and their stories. She has always been interested in how each face tells its own story and shows different experiences.

While she experiments with different mediums, her work often focuses on creating portraits of women in ink. She chose this medium because it's honest and permanent.

Through her portraits, she wants to celebrate these people and show the beauty in what makes them unique.

Artist Statement:

I've spent nearly half my life capturing my thoughts, dreams, and the world around me through art. I love experimenting with different mediums, but I love simply drawing with a pen.

In many of my pen drawings, I don't sketch beforehand and go straight to drawing with ink. Mistakes are what make us human, and I find it exciting that I can't erase those mistakes.

I'm constantly intrigued by the fact that no two people are the same, each face tells a story and attempting to capture something deeper in each of my portraits brings a sense of joy to the process.

Through my portraits, I hope to create a visual record that captures the beauty and diversity of the people around me.
